The university system
How Does the Chinese University System Work?
A completed Baccalaureate can be your starting point for a bachelor’s application. Universities check your school record, subjects, language evidence and any required entrance assessment.4,5
Many take 4 years. Architecture, medicine and other specialised routes can take longer.19,20
A master’s follows a bachelor’s. Doctoral entry usually needs a master’s and a research background. At Zhejiang, for example, master’s programmes take 2–3 years and doctorates 3–4 years.12,13
Some universities offer Chinese language or preparatory courses before a degree. These have their own entry rules, so confirm how they lead into degree study.20,24
Fields of study
What Can You Study in China?
These are examples. Availability, teaching language and degree levels vary by university.5,19,20,21
Chinese-Taught or English-Taught?
Chinese proficiency set by the university, which may include HSK.5
IELTS, TOEFL or an accepted alternative. Exemptions depend on the programme and your education.4,14
Everyday Chinese still helps when your degree is in English.
Can You Use a Chinese Degree in Morocco?
Check how your exact degree can be used before enrolling.17
Medicine or another regulated career? Confirm with the relevant Moroccan authority before paying any deposit.
An English-taught course does not mean the whole degree is in English. Confirm the teaching language of your exact programme.

Admissions
Admission Requirements
There is no single checklist. Requirements depend on your university, degree level, subject and teaching language.
Your Baccalaureate and school transcripts. Subjects, grades, age conditions and tests vary by university.4,5
CSCA report. Zhejiang and SWUFE ask for a China Scholastic Competency Assessment in their 2026 undergraduate guides. Check the subjects, test language and submission date for your route.4,5
A bachelor’s that meets the programme’s requirements. You may also need a study plan, references, an interview or supervisor acceptance.12
A relevant master’s, a research proposal and academic references. Check supervisor arrangements.13
Each course sets its own entry rules. Check the placement process and how it leads to a degree.20,24
Chinese-taught
The programme’s required HSK level or alternative. Levels differ between universities.5
English-taught
Accepted English tests and any exemption for previous study in English. A school letter counts only where the university allows it.6,14
- Passport page and recent photo
- Graduation certificate and transcripts
- Language evidence and CSCA report, if required
- Personal statement or research plan, and references
- Medical, financial or police-record documents, where asked
- Supervisor or under-18 guardian documents, if applicable

Student life
What Is Student Life Like in China?
Student life varies by campus and city. Compare housing, transport, food and support before you choose where to study.
Orientation covers registration, student cards and support contacts. Libraries, sport and cultural activities sit alongside classes; English-language help varies.39,40
Confirm your actual campus, with nearby dining and transport, before choosing housing.
Check university and scholarship permission first. Budget for rent, deposit, agency fees, bills, internet and commuting.
Compare walking, cycling, bus and metro, including last services and costs, before renting.
Pay by ticket, transport card or Alipay QR; Beijing accepts eligible overseas bank cards. Keep backup cash and save your addresses in Chinese.31
University-compliant insurance is required. Check your scholarship cover and when the policy starts.27,33
Some policies exclude private hospitals and international or VIP departments. You may need to pay upfront, so keep invoices, diagnoses and prescriptions.32
China has Hui and Uyghur Muslim communities. Halal food and mosque access vary by city; ask a registered mosque about visits and prayer times.28,34,41
Plan Ramadan meals around canteen hours and cooking rules. Classes and exams are not adjusted for Eid automatically.
No campus prayer rooms. Universities do not provide religious venues, and religious gatherings on campus are prohibited. Organised worship by foreigners must take place at registered venues or approved temporary locations.33,34
